Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 26, 2026
The Morning Lap is a swim-training app built for adult and masters swimmers. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. In plain terms: we collect only what we need to build and pace your workouts, and we never sell your data or use your health information for advertising.
Using the pace calculator without an account
The public pace calculator at morninglap.com works with no account and no sign-in. You enter a swim time; we return your pace zones. We do not store the times you enter there or link them to you.
Information we collect when you use the app
- Account identity. When you sign in with Apple, we receive a unique Apple identifier and, if you choose to share it, your name. We use this only to create and secure your account.
- Training data. Workouts you generate, save, and log — including distances, paces, perceived effort (RPE), your workout-fit preferences, and any notes you add.
- Profile & community data. If you use Community features, the display name, age group, and crew membership you create.
- Coaching videos. If you use the Coach feature, the swim video you upload, which is analyzed to produce technique feedback.
- Clips. If you submit a clip, the video you post is intentionally shared publicly within the app.
Connected devices — Apple Health & Garmin
If you choose to connect a wearable, The Morning Lap can work with your swim data in two directions. This is always opt-in and you can disconnect at any time.
- Sending workouts to your device. With your permission, we send the workout we built for you to your Apple Watch (via Apple HealthKit / WorkoutKit) or your Garmin device (via the Garmin Connect platform) so it can guide you through the set.
- Reading your completed swim. With your permission, after a swim we read the activity's results — such as lap splits, stroke counts, and heart rate — to fill in your training log and improve how we pace your future workouts.
Health and activity data is used only to deliver your own workouts and training history. It is never used for advertising, never sold, and never shared with third parties for their own purposes. You can revoke access in your device's Health/privacy settings or by disconnecting the integration in the app.
How we use your information
- To generate and pace workouts to your individual fitness.
- To save your training history and let you review past sessions.
- To learn which workouts fit you so the library narrows over time to what works for you.
- To provide Community and Coach features you choose to use.
- To keep the service secure and working.
Service providers we use
We rely on a small number of trusted providers to operate the app. They process data only on our behalf:
- Supabase — database and file storage for your account and training data.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, and Apple Health / WorkoutKit if you connect your Apple Watch.
- Garmin — if you connect a Garmin device, to send workouts and receive completed activities.
- Anthropic — to analyze a swim video you submit to the Coach feature and return technique feedback.
- Render — application hosting.
Data sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers. We share data only with the service providers above to run the app, or when required by law.
Retention & your choices
- We keep your account and training data for as long as your account is active.
- You can disconnect a wearable integration at any time, which stops further data exchange.
- You can request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing us (below).
Children
The Morning Lap is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll revise the "last updated" date above when we do.
